Some things can only be understood in stillness.
Some things can only be understood in stillness.

I've been thinking about love lately.

Not the kind that's celebrated in movies.

Not the kind measured by anniversaries or photographs.

The love that's patient.

The love that's kind.

The love that doesn't insist on having its own way.

The love that keeps no record of wrongs.

I've discovered something.

We often assume that if a marriage changes, then the love must have disappeared.

I'm not convinced that's true.

Sometimes love shows up as forgiveness.

Sometimes it shows up as restraint.

Sometimes it shows up by refusing to speak poorly of someone who once held your heart.

Sometimes love chooses dignity over bitterness.

Sometimes love extends grace when resentment would be easier.

Sometimes love allows another person the space and time they need, even when the future no longer looks the way you once imagined.

Perhaps love isn't always found in holding on.

Sometimes love is found in the way we care for one another while life is changing.

I've come to know that love isn't proven only by how we begin.

It's revealed by who we choose to be when the story becomes difficult.

Love is still patient.

Love is still kind.

And I pray that, no matter what chapter of life I find myself in, that's the kind of love people experience through me.

Not because it's easy.

But because that's the kind of love I've been shown.

Welcome to the Journey.
